Deeper Digs in Rock: Red Roses, Green Gold

A different kind of Deeper Digs this week. Rock N Roll is fueling a new wave of musicals both on and off Broadway and one that caught our eye was the recent opening of 'Red Roses, Green Gold'.

The musical is a comedic tale of a family looking to con its way to fortune in Maryland in the Twenties, featuring songs by Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter. The characters have names like "The Candy Man" and "Bertha," and for added jam-band authenticity, Furthur and Dead & Co. keyboardist Jeff Chimenti was hired as musical director. 

Christian sits down to discuss the production with Director Rachel Klein, the NYC based director, who has been coined "Endlessly Clever," (by The New York Post), and "Nothing short of brilliant," (by Broadway World) and of whose work The New York Times has stated: "What makes this show pop is the bracing vision of its director, Rachel Klein."
